On August 7, 2024, the Community Hall in Phungyar village was filled with excitement as the 10th National Handloom Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Organized under the Kamjong Cluster Development Programme by the District Handlooms & Textiles, Kamjong, and sponsored by the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Manipur, the event marked a significant milestone in recognizing and honoring India’s rich handloom heritage.

Weavers eagerly awaited the start of the program, their faces lighting up with joy as the much-anticipated day arrived. The program commenced at 12 pm, with the hall buzzing with the energy and enthusiasm of the attendees.
Chief Guest’s Address
The Chief Guest, Cluster Development Executive of Phungyar Block, Ramreiso Kasar, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to the weavers for their unwavering cooperation and dedication. Kasar highlighted the crucial role of weavers in preserving cultural and traditional heritage, stating, “It is through you, the weavers, that we are able to maintain our traditions. Your work allows both women and men to balance family and work life, contributing to the economic and social fabric of our community.”
Kasar emphasized that the handloom industry enables women and men to work from home, providing a means to balance family responsibilities while contributing economically. This flexibility is essential, particularly in rural areas where managing household duties alongside earning an income can be challenging.
